To compare between a single-foundress colony and a multiple-foundress colony at the pre-emergence state of a social wasp, R. fasciata, nest distributions and colony terminations were investigated in 8 sites with different environmental conditions. Marking experiments were also conducted in two sites at high wasp density.
- Foundress populations were composed of single-foundress colonies in sites C, D and E, new environments where have recently suited for inhaviting, at low wasp density. In sites like A and B which were used year after year, at high wasp density, coexistence of multiple-and single-foundress colonies was observed.
- From the marking experiment, nests initiated by a single foundress were more distant away from the nest where the original foundress emerged the fall before, compared to multiple-foundress nests which were initiated by multiple foundress.
- Greater percentage of colony termination was observed in single-foundress nests than in multiple-foundress nests, and the colony termination in single-foundress colonies increased with the nest density.
- Ant predation was the key factor causing the variation of the percentage of colony termination.

Ca2+ transport was studied in membrane vesicles of alkalophilic Bacillus. When Na+-loaded membrane vesicles were suspended in KHCO3/KOH buffer (pH 10) containing Ca2+, rapid uptake of Ca2+ was observed. The apparent value for Ca2+ measured at pH 10 was about 7 μM, and the value shifted to 24 μM when measured at pH 7.4. The efflux of Ca2+ was studied with Ca2+-loaded vesicles. Ca2+ was released when Ca2+-loaded vesicles were suspended in medium containing 0.4 M Na+.Ca2+ was also transported in membrane vesicles driven by an artificial pH gradient and by a membrane potential generated by K+-valinomycin in the presence of Na+.These results indicate the presence of Ca2+/Na+ and H+/Na+ antiporters in the alkalophilic Bacillus A-007. 相似文献

The trypsin-catalyzed coupling of bovine (Boc)2-desoctapeptide (B23-B30)-insulin with synthetic octapeptides, H-Gly-X2-X3-X4-Thr-Pro-Lys(Boc)-Thr-OH (X2 = Phe or Ala, X3 = Phe or Ala, X4 = Tyr or Ala), followed by deprotection and purification produced the [AlaB24, ThrB30]-, [AlaB25, ThrB30]-, and [AlaB26, ThrB30]-analogs of bovine insulin in yields of 32, 35, and 32%, respectively. The biological activity of these analogs decreased in the order, normal insulin ([ThrB30]-bovine insulin) = AlaB26-insulin > AlaB25-insulin > AlaB24-insulin, as assayed for receptor binding and some other biological effects, in contrast with the corresponding Leu-analogs of human insulin, in which the activity decreased in the order, normal insulin > LeuB24-insulin > LeuB25-insulin. The affinity to insulin antibodies greatly diminished in both AlaB24-insulin and LeuB24-insulin but not in the B25-substituted analogs. The CD spectra of the Leu- and the Ala-analogs were compared with those of normal insulins to show that no apparent correlation seems to exist between the decrease in biological activity and the conformational changes observed in solution. The effects of organic solvents on the peptide-bond equilibrium and on the stability of trypsin are also discussed. 相似文献

A new method for the production of pectin from citrus peel was developed. For this purpose, a microorganism which produces a protopectin-solubilizing enzyme was isolated and identified as a variety of Trichosporon penicillatum. The most suitable conditions for the pectin production were determined as follows. Citrus (Citrus unshiu) peel was suspended in water (1:2, wt/vol), the organism was added, and fermentation proceeded over 15 to 20 h at 30°C. During the fermentation, the pectin in the peel was extracted almost completely without macerating the peel. By this method, 20 to 25 g of pectin was obtained per kg of peel. The pectin obtained was special in that it contained neutral sugar at high levels, which was determined to have a molecular weight suitable for practical applications. 相似文献

Activities of aortae to produce prostaglandin (PG) I2-like substance in stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRSP), stroke-resistant SHR (SHRSR) and normotensive control rats from the Wistar-Kyoto (WK) colony were compared. PGI2-like substance was produced by the incubation of the aortic ring in pH 9.0 borate-buffered saline and the amount produced was estimated by comparison of its anti-aggregatory activity with that produced by known amounts of the sodium salt of synthetic PGI2. Before the development of stroke, amounts of this substance generated in SHRSP and SHRSR were significantly higher than those in WK rats (p<0.01 and p<0.02, respectively). Remarkably reduced capacity to generate PGI2-like substance was observed in some SHRSP after the development of stroke. 相似文献

The excretion rates of main urinary metabolite of PG F2α were measured radioimmunologically in 4 healthy persons and in 13 essential hypertensives. The resting values were 9.3±0.73 in the former and 10.4±2.17 ng/min in the latter. There was no significant differences between them. The excretion of the metabolite decresed prominently after the administration of furosemide. The percent decrease was 57% in healthy persons and 70% in essential hypertension. The percent result supports that furosemide inhibit the catabolism of PG F2α. 相似文献

DCMU (N'-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-N, N-dimethylurea) was testedfor effects on the metabolism of galactolipids in Chlorellaand chloroplasts isolated from higher plants. In Chlorella,DCMU affected galactolipid synthesis in the light more thanthat of other lipids, but it showed no effect on lipid synthesisin the dark. DCMU did not affect the turnover of galactolipidsin the light. In vitro studies using 14C-acetate or 14C-UDP-galactoseas a precursor showed that DCMU had no effect on the synthesisof gross lipid or galactolipids in chloroplasts isolated fromhigher plants. The Clark model for melanoma progression emphasizes a series of histopathological changes beginning from benign melanocytic nevus to melanoma via dysplastic nevus. Several models of the genetic basis of melanoma development and progression are based on this Clark’s multi-step model, and predict that the acquisition of a BRAF mutation can be a founder event in melanocytic neoplasia. However, our recent investigations have challenged this view, showing the polyclonality of BRAF mutations in melanocytic nevi. Furthermore, it is suggested that many melanomas, including acral and mucosal melanomas, arise de novo, not from melanocytic nevus. While mutations of the BRAF gene are frequent in melanomas on non-chronic sun damaged skin which are prevalent in Caucasians, acral and mucosal melanomas harbor mutations of the KIT gene as well as the amplifications of cyclin D1 or cyclin-dependent kinase 4 gene. Amplifications of the cyclin D1 gene are detected in normal-looking ‘field melanocytes’, which represent a latent progression phase of acral melanoma that precedes the stage of atypical melanocyte proliferation in the epidermis. Abstract The magnetic bacterium Magnetospirillum magnetotacticum prefers a microaerobic habitat and should be able to sense oxygen. Therefore, the bacterium was cultured under atmospheres containing 0–5% O2 and analyzed for oxygen-dependent changes in the levels of its protein components by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyccrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). The analysis revealed a marked anaerobic induction of a 140-kDa protein, which was suppressed when M. magnetotacticum was switched from microaerobic (<1% O2 ) to aerobic (>1% O2 ) growth conditions. Although its function remains to be determined, the 140-kDa protein may serve as a useful tool to gain insight into the physiology of the organism. 相似文献
